Nate Diaz is an American professional mixed martial artist who has primarily competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) promotion since winning the reality TV series The Ultimate Fighter 5 in 2007. Before joining UFC, in the early part of his career, he had competed in the now-defunct promotions World Extreme Cagefighting and Strikeforce. He had also participated for a while in the Japan-based promotion Pancrase. Besides MMA, he is adept at boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, holding a 2nd-degree black belt in the latter discipline. Representing the United States, he had won a ‘Silver’ medal, in the 82 kg (Blue) category, at the 2005 Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championships, the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in North America.

He had started getting trained in mixed martial arts, with his older brother Nick, when he was just 11 years old.

He and Nick, also a professional MMA fighter fighting under UFC, run a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school called the Nick Diaz Academy in their hometown of Stockton. The brothers have both been advocates for cannabis use for the longest time and have a licensed line of marijuana pre-rolls manufactured by California Finest. Besides that, they jointly run a CBD company known as Game Up Nutrition.

As of January 2021, he had jointly held the record for the ‘Second-Most UFC Bonus Awards’ (15). This includes ‘Fight of the Night’ (8 times), ‘Knockout of the Night’ (Once),
